¤ Dr
Severus Horrible - Drawn for FictionAlley's 2010 April Fools' Day;
I don't know if it actually turned up on the site or not. Would teenage
Snape having a video blog be awesome or horrible? Or perhaps both?

¤ The New Snape
- I drew this while waiting for the bus one morning as I'd been increasingly
dissatisfied with my existing Snape design and had basically approproated
him to be Vetinari, to whom he was much better suited. It's a really wonky
drawing but I kind of like that, in this case, which means either that
I am losing my mind or the world is ending.
¤
Looking
for Depth - I tried playing with it a bit to get some dimensionality.
This looked too much like Scrimgeour so it was rejected.
¤
Doodles
- I did some thumbnails to make sure that Snape, Scrimgeour, and Moody
had adequately different face shapes. There's also a preview of boy Snape
and ... a horse.
¤
The
Penetrating Gaze - 'If you truly wish to master Legilimency, Severus,'
said Dumbledore, 'You must learn to conceal your really quite obvious
"tell"...'
¤
Yelling
(again) - Tried redoing a scene from the Azkaban Project (again with
no reference; waiting for the bus is a hard time to look up old files)
... I like this design, it's fun, even if he is yelling at ... the floor...?
¤
Billow!
- I wanted to draw a pose with his robes billowing but I gave up on the
thumbnails pretty quickly and settled for ridiculously overblown cliché...
Then I noticed he looked like a
purty flower.
¤
Snape's
Breakdown - A thumbnail for Snape's breakdown in Dumbledore's office
... I love the intensity from an otherwise reserved character and how
it's completely one-sided. This may become an actual illustration someday
(don't hold your breath...) but I like the energy of the thumbnail.
¤
Boy
Snape - With his funny smock thing. I had this design in mind when
I redesigned adult Snape; I hope they look like the same person.
¤
Young
Snape - Late teenage Snape, unfortunately drawn across the gutter
of my sketchbook...
¤
Simon
Snape - I don't remember why I drew this, but it's supposed to be
Simon Pegg as Snape. Your guess is as good as mine.
¤
A
Snape-Shaped Hole - I'm sorry, but you don't describe a character-shaped
hole in a window without bringing to mind Warner Bros imagery, which kills
all drama and seriousness. Silly Ms Rowling.
¤
Black
Hat - Drawn in response to a friend's comment, re: her post-DH Snape
story/comic, that Severus and Draco would fit right into a Western.
¤
Stylized
Blocking - Something about the way the action was described in the
'Spinner's End' chapter of Half-Blood Prince made it look like
really stylized classical tragedy in my head.
¤
Christmas
Cracker - Snape and Draco pull a cracker. Look how much fun they're
having!
¤
More
Christmas Fun - Oh Snape, give Harry back his present!
¤
BatSnape
- Ms Rowling kept describing Snape as 'an overgrown bat.' I have a problem
with this description because I know what bats look like – roughly
like this.
Snape's long, lean, dour image does not jive with bathood. So I drew what
Snape would look like if he did actually resemble a bat. (I got
a little sidetracked and first ended up drawing a
bat that looked like Snape...)
¤
Emo
Snape - Someone requested this, I forget why. I don't think it's actually
accurately Emo, but it's a good look on him.
¤
Emu
Snape - It was a pun I couldn't resist.

2004 |
Contempt - The book says his face was twisted
in loathing; this ended up looking more like mere contempt. Oh yeah,
and something hideous happened with the design in this one. Sorry...
Orange, Longbottom - Will Neville
ever get his potion right?
The Snape Boggart - Oh the indignity!
I was actually pleasantly surprised with this one... The hat is roughly
based on my 2003 Halloween costume.
Conference II - With Percy butting
in and Potter listening, how can one get a word in edgewise? (Conference
I is in 1999-2001, below)
Interrogating Potter - ...
he bent down, a hand on each arm of Harry's chair, so that their faces
were a foot apart. 'If your head was in Hogsmeade, so was the
rest of you.'
An Impressive Entrance - "That's
right," sneered a cold voice from the wall behind Lupin.
Severus Snape was pulling off the Invisibility Cloak, his wand pointing
directly at Lupin.
Knocked Out - "We attacked
a teacher... we attacked a teacher...," Hermione whimpered, staring
at the lifeless Snape with frightened eyes. "Oh, we're going
to be in so much trouble –"
The Order of Merlin - [Harry]
caught a glimpse of Snape's smirk as he and Fudge passed [their] hiding
place.
Snape Totally Freaks Out - "THEY
HELPED HIM ESCAPE, I KNOW IT!" Snape howled, pointing at Harry
and Hermione. His face was twisted; spit was flying from his mouth.
Seething - Snape stood there,
seething, staring from Fudge, who looked thoroughly shocked at his behaviour,
to Dumbledore, whose eyes were twinkling behind his glasses.
Unlocked - Always lock up
when you leave ... the results may be tragic (and/or humourous).

1999
- 2001 |
Conference I - If only Snape could talk to
Dumbledore without that annoying Percy Weasley butting in.
Dueling Club - Please forgive the ugliness
of this drawing. Second book, dueling club, insufferable know-it-all
... you get the picture.
Vengeful - Snape corners Sirius in the Shrieking
Shack, points a wand between his eyes, and says 'Give me a reason to
do it and I swear I will.'
Wolfsbane - Oh, the indignity (again) ...
serving Lupin a potion in the presence of that insufferable Potter.
Beardless - An early attempt at trying to shave
Snape ... it didn't really work.
Frighteningly Beardless - An earlier attempt
that resulted in what looks like a 60-year-old woman with a bad facelift.
The First Snape - This is the first Snape
design that was close to how I pictured him in my head ... you don't
want to see what came before.
